Heorots and the people of Denmark Problem

Who does Grendel think he is? After building my mead-hall for dinning and my throne room, he has to cause chaos in Heorot.  I thought Heorot would be the most wonderful place for my adherents, but it was too good to be true! He killed and devoured so many people in one night, thirty to be exact; does his mom not feed him? He has been causing nothing but trouble for twelve years! We have enormous amount of joy, with the sound of the harp playing, and of course us getting drunk, then night comes and Grendel wants to start a war. I just want to party. I am sorry for Grendel since he can’t join, but he is a murderous creature. He can just go back to his lovely swamp and throw a party over there! I have had enough of his foolish acts and sins and it is time to stop it—I am definitely not that person though. I am too superior for the demon since I am the ruler of the Danes, but I know someone in a different kingdom can defeat Grendel. I can’t seem to think of that person just yet, but in time hopefully a warrior will help as I have no problem showering him in valuable treasures and jewels if he defeats Grendel.

God Has Sent Help!

My prayers have been answered! Today, after receiving a message from Wulfgar about a troop willing to help put an end to Grendal’s massacre, I was extremely thrilled! The fifteen-man troop was a bit too good to be true, like always, so I asked for them to come to Heorot and discuss about the slaying of Grendel. I requested that they do not arm themselves with their shields and spears because the weapons might endanger the residents of Heorot.  I soon found that the leader of the warriors is Beowulf and I remembered Beowulf through his father, Ecgtheow. He was my friend, but passed away a long time ago. I offered the Wulfings a treasure-trove to end the feud between Beowulf’s father and the Wulfings. Ecgtheow had killed Heatholaf, a member of the Wulfings, and I wanted to resolve their conflict. Like his courageous father, Beowulf wants to fight Grendel with only his bare hands, which is absolute insanity. I don’t think he understands how many lives he has killed and how my warriors using swords can’t defeat him. I do still believe that Beowulf can kill Grendel because from his past experiences and achievements and mainly his supernatural strength!

Feast before the slaughter

Finally, my mead hall is now in use! Of course I had to treat Beowulf and his warriors to a royal dinner before the battle with Grendel. It has been a while since Heorot was filled with so much joy and happiness. Everyone was having a great time, but Unferth seemed a bit jealous. Unferth wouldn’t stop boasting on Beowulf and he didn’t even have his facts right! I believe Beowulf can defeat the demon and believed in him even more after hearing the story about him and Brecca. He describes his five long nights out in the harsh sea while defeating nine monsters. He ended up washed ashore on Finland. I respected Beowulf more since he told Unferth in a polite and respectful manner how he has achieved more things in life and I found it quite humorous. What really caught my attention was, Wealhtheow! Wealhtheow is my wife and she was extremely beautiful during our feast. She was full of precious jewels and sparkled with every move she made. The darkness is about to set and that’s when Grendel sets out for his feast. Hopefully, Beowulf will keep his word and defeat the murderous demon. Tonight will be a memorable night if Grendel is deafeat, we can fill Heorot hall with all my people again.

The Demon's Death along with the destruction of Heorot

TgdemonI cannot thank Beowulf enough for all he has done to help my kingdom. I truly think he is my son and I adopt him in my heart. Last night, Beowulf accomplished what he had in mind, which was to kill Grendel. The sight of Grendel’s arm was unbelievable! The arm was like barbed steel and no iron weapon could leave any damage on it! Thankfully with Beowulf’s strength he could rip it off, but I would have loved to see the demon deathless in Heorot. I will not complain because he will still die on his way back to his swampy lair. Heorot was a disaster though! The doors were far from its hinges, the walls destroyed, and the roof was the only part untouched. No worries, I ordered everybody that had hands to pitch a hand in refurbishing the hall. After everyone was done the ceremony begun in rewarding the brave warriors.  I rewarded Beowulf and his men for their great deed. I offered Beowulf an embroidered banner, breast-mail, a helmet, a sword, and eight horses with saddles. Also, Beowulf’s warriors were rewarded with gold! Heorot had a great overall feast filled with wine, a poem by Hildeburh, and precious treasures were offered. Heorot is now a happiness destination in thanks of Beowulf.

Mother to the Rescue? Pshhhh ...

Once again Heorot is in harmony and another creature lurks to interrupt the peacefulness. The creature is Grendel’s mother and she runs off with my best advisor, Aeschere, killing him. Fortunately, Beowulf, a courageous man, takes the task to end Grendel’s mother’s life in their swampy lair. When Beowulf came back he possessed Grendel’s head and a story defeating his mother. He explained to me that slaying Grendel’s mother was not an easy task as then Grendel. She was furious about the death of her son, so she slashes Beowulf’s chest with a broad knife. Beowulf managed to fight, even though he was badly injured. He noticed a sword hilt hanging on the wall and grabs the sword. Beowulf strikes at the monster’s head with all his might. Beowulf’s attempt at beheading the monster was unsuccessful, but he managed to severely hurt her neckbone, which leaves amounts of blood dripping from his sword. Grendel’s mother collapses to the ground. The battle is over, but Beowulf sees Grendel’s dead body nearby. He approaches it and cuts off the head. He returns to Heorot with the head for us to see. A feast is thrown in honor of Beowulf”s achievement and I hope to dear god, Grendel does not have a father.
